Ways to Get Your Screened Porch Summer-Ready

May is already more than halfway through which means summertime is coming, and it’s heading towards us quickly. As with every season, there are ways to prepare your screened porch for the summer, including cleaning, redecorating, and removing some of the warmer additions that have been resting in your screened porch since last fall. Read on to check out our recommendations on how best to prepare your screened porch for the upcoming summer season!

Cleaning Tips

We have several blogs previously written with our recommendations for cleaning (“Spring Cleaning Includes Your Porch Too,” and “How to Properly Maintain and Take Care of Your Screened Porch,” to name a few) so we’re not going to spend too much time explaining this category. In short, all aspects of your screened porch (flooring, screens, walls, furniture, etc.) need to be regularly cleaned to remain free from dirt, dust, and debris. While our recommendations have been supplied, please keep in mind that your screened porch will need different care based upon materials used and surfaces present.

Decorating Suggestions

Bring back the bright, bold colors for your summer porch! Bright blues, greens, yellows, reds - really anything your heart desires - will make for a vibrant, unique location this summer. Plus, adding in beach-scene decorations, like seashells, palm leaves, and table-top water features pair excellently with said bright, bold accent colors (greens and blues especially). Also, the addition of plants and flowers will make any space, including your porch, feel more summer-y.

Items to Add

As you’ll likely be spending more time in your screened porch over the summer, it’s important to add more lighting and games. The lighting (lanterns, string lights, and candles) helps keep the party going (so-to-speak) once the sun goes down. The games help provide a good activity when the night starts to die-down, and it’s great for adults and children alike. Feel free to also add a summer bar area, for adult beverage supplies, light snacks, and bottled water, ensuring that family and guests feel welcomed and appreciated. Other items, like new technologies and new furniture, are also more than welcome to change your screened porch up for the summer - just make sure not to overcrowd your area!

Items to Rearrange or Remove

With temperatures and humidity rising, it’s time to remove those heavier blankets and thick pillows, and swap them out for lighter throw blankets and light, fluffy pillows. During this time it’s also a great idea to rotate your porch plants towards the areas of the screened porch that meet their light needs, as well as moving furniture to make more space for hosting friends and family as the summer progresses. While the season may not be all that different from spring, it is different enough that you should match your screened porch to your summer needs, be those relaxing, hosting, or otherwise.
