Ways to Enjoy Your Screened Porch as Summer Winds Down

With summer coming to an end, it’s time to start thinking about enjoying your screened porch in cooler weather. Fortunately, we’ve been thinking about some awesome ways to continue enjoying your screened porch, no matter the weather, the amount of light, or the amount of time available. If you need some new ideas, then keep reading for our end-of-summer recommendations!

Host Evening Movie Nights

As children go back to school and work picks up to end the year off strong, it’s important to still enjoy some socialization when everyone is free. Hosting evening movie nights, especially on the weekends, is a great way to continue enjoying your screened porch no matter what the weather or daylight is doing. The evenings allow for cooler enjoyment, without the distractions of the day - be those work, school, or other. Movie nights can be done cost-effectively, and require minimal commitment from guests and homeowners alike.

Enjoy Weekend Mornings ‘Outside’

A great way to combat stress is by enjoying peaceful mornings in your screened porch. While life can get quite hectic during the second half of the year, sipping your morning coffee with a good book in hand, without the fear of weather or bugs interfering, is a fantastic way to continue enjoying your screened porch. In order to heighten your screened porch enjoyment, invite over some neighbors or family members once in a while to cherish the blissful end-of-summer weekend mornings with you!

Begin Changing Out Decor

Although summer isn’t officially over until mid-way through September, it’s not too early to begin changing your seasonal decorations. The end of summer and beginning of fall is characterized by darker, muted colors and warm undertones. If you feel so inclined, you can even start adding pumpkins, gourds, and/or hay into your decorating schemes for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Even if you don’t jump straight into those two holiday seasons, warmer colors are a necessity, and definitely warmer blankets and pillows for comfort. The seashells and sand will have to wait another year to make their appearance again!

Get a Head Start on Fall Cleaning

Nobody wants to think about another deep-cleaning of their screened porch - especially since it only feels like a week since their last. Unfortunately, it’s been about six months since the last recommended screened-porch deep-clean, which means it’s time to begin thinking about another. Fall is the perfect season to clean little-by-little, with an understanding that (depending on where you live) you may not be using your screened porch for a few of the upcoming months. Starting by wiping off some of the furniture surfaces or cleaning the floors is a good way to get yourself prepared for more of the upcoming cleaning.

Add Blankets & a Coat Rack

While we mentioned changing out the blankets on your screened porch earlier, it’s also a great time to add blankets, too! By adding more, thicker blankets, your screened porch will be more comfortable for yourself and guests, and will be already prepared for cold weather that is coming. Speaking of cold weather, the end of summer is the perfect moment to add a small coat rack into your screened porch, too. A small coat rack will make the space feel more inviting to guests, and will allow you to keep a few sweatshirts/jackets out for later use.
