Summer Hydration: Refreshing Summer Beverage Recipes
Now that we are comfortably in July, known to be the hottest month, staying hydrated is more important than ever. While it is important to drink lots of water, it can be a lot of fun trying out new drink recipes to add some flavor into your drink. A flavorful beverage is a great way to beat the heat and stay hydrated. Watermelon lemonade
IngredienTS
1 large or 2 small watermelons
250ml lemon juice (from a bottle or squeeze your own)
100g golden caster sugar
1 bottle of soda water
1 lime, cut into slices
Small handful mint
Crushed ice
Directions
Hollow out your watermelon, and then mash it through a sieve.
Put the mashed watermelon in a blender with the lemon juice and sugar, then stir in the soda.
Add the mixture to cups with ice, garnishing with the limes and mint.
Virgin piña colada
IngredienTS
150ml pineapple juice
50ml coconut milk
25ml lime juice
Ice
Cherry, to garnish
Mock rum syrup
100g dark brown muscovado sugar
1 pineapple, a few strips of skin, plus leaves to garnish
5 black peppercorns
5 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
Directions
To make a mock rum syrup, heat the dark brown muscovado sugar and 200ml of water until the sugar has dissolved.
Add a few strips of skin from the pineapple, the black peppercorns, cloves, and a cinnamon stick, then bring to a boil. Then, turn off the heat and strain the liquid once it has cooled.
Combine the pineapple juice, coconut milk, ice, and lime juice in a tall glass then stir gently.
Slowly add 25ml of the syrup and garnish with pineapple leaves and a tinned cherry.
Blackberry-Lime Porch Punch

3 cups fresh blackberries
4 cups chilled sweet tea
2 cups cold water
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (from 5 limes)
4 (12-oz.) cans of chilled nonalcoholic ginger beer
1 (16-oz.) bag frozen blackberries
Ice
Lime slices
Mint sprigs
Directions
Mash fresh blackberries in a large bowl with a potato masher until fully broken. Then pour through a fine mesh strainer into a measuring cup or bowl, getting every drop of liquid.
Pour the blackberry juice into a large punch bowl. Stir in the sweet tea, water, and lime juice until combined. Gently stir in the ginger beer and frozen blackberries until just combined.
Serve with ice and lime slices and mint sprigs as a garnish.
Black-Eyed Susan Slushies
IngredienTS
⅓ cup fresh lime juice (from 3 limes)
⅓ cup fresh lemon juice (from 2 lemons)
⅓ cup simple syrup
¾ cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed (from 1 [12-oz.] container)
¾ cup frozen pineapple juice concentrate, thawed (from 1 [12 -oz.] container)
4 cups ice cubes
1 ½ cups ginger ale
Orange slices, lime slices, pineapple slices, leaves from pineapple crown, and maraschino cherries, for garnish.
Directions
Process lime juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, orange concentrate, pineapple concentrate, and ice in a blender on high for 30 to 45 seconds or until the mixture is smooth and slushy.
Pour slushy into glasses, topping with 1 to 2 ounces of ginger ale.
Ginger-Orange Mocktails

5 cups freshly squeezed orange or satsuma juice (from 7 oranges), plus orange slices for serving
3 cups pineapple juice, chilled
1/2 tsp. orange bitters, such as Angostura
3 (12-oz.) bottles ginger beer, chilled
Directions
Combine the orange juice, pineapple juice and bitters in a pitcher or punch bowl, stirring until combined.
Serve over ice, topped with ginger beer and garnished with orange slices.
