Know How the Cold Weather Affects Your Screened Porch

As the cold weather rolls in, the holiday season is soon upon us! Unfortunately, this also means that your screened porch might be getting a little less use than normal. While you may not be using it as much, it will still be affected by the elements. But, how exactly? And what can you do to help it? Check out this blog to learn more!

Contracting Pieces

All materials change with temperature, and this is no exception for the materials used to make SCREENEZE. The cap used in the SCREENEZE system is made out of vinyl, and the cold temperatures will cause it to contract a little bit. However, this is perfectly normal and is factored into the design of our system. Our self-tightening technology makes sure that this is the case, and the system will still hold up to strong winter winds.

Snow

Depending on where you live, snow can absolutely impact your screened porch. While rain falls and then evaporates fairly quickly in most cases, snow can stay for a much longer period of time. Exposing your screened porch to this much moisture can have adverse effects, and it’s much better to be safe than sorry. If you know that a snowstorm might be coming, it could be time to weatherproof a bit more than normal. There are plenty of different weatherproofing options, including weatherproof curtains. However, nothing is really a one-size-fits-all type of solution, so it’s important that you do your own research and figure out what is right for your screened porch in particular.

Sunlight

While the days are getting colder, they are also getting shorter. Less sunlight means two things. First, your screened porch will have less time to warm up during the day, meaning that if you’re planning to enjoy it outside, it will almost certainly be cold. The second thing is that it will be a little more difficult to see outside. While hindrances, these problems can be solved by installing heaters and lights. The heaters that you want for your porch can be found at pretty much any home improvement store near you. Just be sure to follow all of the instructions when setting it up and place it in a safe space in your screened porch. Lights can be made very fun, as there are a variety to choose from. If you’re feeling it, get festive and string up some holiday lights. This can be a great excuse to decorate for the season if you want to. If not, there are plenty of options to choose from, so find one that works for you!
