How to Get Your Screened Porch Spring-Ready

We know that the seasons changing can bring a lot of excitement, but they can equally bring a lot of new work. If you want to start early in getting your screened porch spring-ready, this is a must-read! Whether you had your screened porch covered and “closed down” all winter, or you were able to make use of the space all season, we’ve got some great ideas to help you prepare your screened porch for the upcoming months.

Off With The Coverings

While you may have opted to leave your screened porch open-air and usable all winter-long, many individuals live in climates where screened porch coverings are necessary to protect against the temperatures and ailments. If you put up a screened porch covering at the end of fall, this is your time to take it down and let the fresh air in. Begin by carefully removing the vinyl covering (or other material). Ensure that all tape, or other adhesive, is removed from the surface. Once the tape has been removed and the covering has been taken down, ensure to mark the location and orientation of each covering piece - this step will make reusability in the coming years much easier. Lastly, clean off any dust, dirt, or debris to maintain the longevity of the covering, and store the coverings safely in a location that: 1) you’ll remember next winter and 2) is safe and sound for the coverings to sit there for another 300+ days.

Spring Cleaning

Once your screened porch is completely open to fresh air, it’s important to give everything a good wipe-down (even more important if you don’t clean your screened porch with some regularity). Dusting, sweeping the floors, wiping down tabletops, and washing fabric items are all recommended actions to give your porch some life after the long winter. Just as with all other spaces of your home, your porch will get dirty, too. Next week, we’ll share some additional tips about cleaning and prepping your screened porch for the new season. Our team will go more in-depth about supply recommendations, specific actions, and more. If you need some advice in the meantime, however, feel free to check out some of our older blogs around this time last year for advice.

Decorations to Bring Happiness

While the goal of all decorations is to bring happiness, spring is especially the time to do so because of the light, pastel colors and the playful, childlike designs. Thick blankets and chunky pillows can be replaced with light throws and small pillows. Dark-colored decor can be exchanged for pinks, yellows, and greens that illustrate nature themes and animals. The addition of low- to medium-light plants can be added into your screened porch or just outside to bring some extra life and light into your space. Essentially, this decoration-swap has the primary goal to remove the things that feel overly cozy and add back items with a fresh, lively feeling.
