Construction Industry News & Updates

The SCREENEZE team likes to stay informed about the happenings within the Construction Industry, as well as the Home Improvement Industry. While we regularly share news updates on our social media and within emails, we feel it’s necessary to occasionally write up a more permanent update regarding what’s happening within these industries of interest. This blog update is dedicated to just that: sharing important trends and news points of importance. The goal is that the information supplied below provides Homeowners, Installers, and Dealers with the details they need to gain a better grasp of the construction and home improvement landscape.

Changes & Updates in Energy Efficiency

It’s 2023 - homeowners are looking for sources of energy that do more while costing less. This is the year that many professionals anticipate a massive switch from traditional power sources towards solar energy and/or a reduction in consumption altogether. Especially as we are facing high inflation, homeowners can lower their bills, and even earn tax credits, by improving their overall energy efficiency, be that electricity, water, or what have you. Improving homeowner efficiency can be done as cheaply or as costly as you can afford, with even small changes making meaningful strides.

Facelifts to Common Home Spaces

Whether you are finally going to fix that leaky faucet this year, or you complete a full renovation on your kitchen, 2023 is the expected year for it all. Home improvements made within the kitchen or bathroom are considered high drivers of return on investment (ROI), while enhancing the overall quality and appearance of the home. Fortunately, due to the supply chain leveling out more than the previous year, alongside higher consumer spending trends, small home improvements and larger home renovations are all anticipated for the new year, making meaningful increases in ROI and homeowner satisfaction.

Repairs & Preventative Measures

Over the recent years we’ve witnessed more extreme weather conditions and natural disasters than before, with the frequency and volatility increasing year over year. For much of the United States, 2023 will be a year of natural disaster repairs alongside preventative measures to protect their property from dramatic weather in the near future. Roughly 42% of homeowners within the United States said they’ve undertaken a recent home improvement project due to climate challenges, with that number expected to increase over the coming years. By investing in basic home repairs and structural improvements this year, homeowners will be more likely to save money long-term.

Maximizing the Outdoors

This is not a new trend. In fact, back in early 2022 we commented on the exact same trend and how expanding your home outdoors is vital to increase ROI, personal satisfaction, and reduce unnecessary entertainment spending. Whether you’re adding a screened porch, a pergola, a deck, a firepit space, or whatever suits your budget, all are worthwhile for a variety of reasons. If the COVID-19 pandemic taught us anything, it’s that if you can’t be comfortable and enjoy time at your own home, you haven’t created your space right. This includes indoor and outdoor relaxation spots, so that you and your family can have a change of scenery on the regular.

Alternative Building Methods

Speaking of that good ‘ole supply chain, many contractors and installers have sought after non-traditional building methods and materials to make their projects work. From 3D-printing to modular building, and many alternatives in between, contractors and installers alike have started integrating alternative methods and materials into their daily work. While this is not to say the alternatives are replacing traditional materials and methods, it is anticipated in 2023 that there will be a much more integrated approach to construction, with the traditional and the new. This year will bring the change to design, production, construction, and distribution.

Sustainable Choices

Similarly to the maximization of the outdoors, sustainability is not a new trend. Once again, we covered early in 2022 how, given climate change and the severity of weather in recent years, many homeowners, contractors, and installers are seeking more sustainable, environmentally-friendly options from ideation to completion of any given project. Homeowners want low-emitting homes that can function as anticipated while still being mindful of the environment. Current trends of younger homeowners specifically care what resources are being used and where they are supplied from, making them more willing to pay higher prices than their older homeowner counterparts. Meanwhile, many businesses have changed their operations to produce less waste, with others working towards net zero emissions.
