How to Create a Screen Porch for Relaxation

One of the many benefits of screening in your porch is the ability to relax and enjoy the serenity of the outdoors from the comfort of your own home. Whether you are enjoying a sunset in the morning or the sunset at night, fresh air and a cool breeze will always unlock a level of relaxation that can only be found outside. With a screened porch, the worries of bugs and unpredictable weather disappear, allowing you to relax in peace. It is important to set yourself up for success when it comes to designing your porch, ensuring that your space will bring relaxation for years to come. In this blog, we will give some tips and tricks for creating the perfect spot for relaxing all year long.

Comfortable furniture

The first step to creating a relaxing screen porch is choosing comfortable furniture. If you plan on spending a lot of time on your screened porch it is important that you relax on furniture that is suitable for comfort. For starters, well-cushioned outdoor couches are a very popular choice as they can hold numerous people and are perfect for lounging in after a long day. Rocking chairs and hammocks are also great choices to compliment your couch, they provide extra seating that is practical and comfortable. Evening adding cushioning to benches, drawers, and chairs will boost their comfortability greatly.

Natural Elements

Something that is often forgotten about but greatly elevated by a screened porch is incorporating natural elements into your porch. Simple things like ferns, flowers, and plants further indulge you in the peaceful outdoors and bring immense life to your outdoor space. Being outdoors has proven to have many mental and physical health benefits including reducing stress, improving mood, and boosting overall well-being. Adding some outdoor elements into your indoor space will elevate these benefits and create a fresh scent for your porch. They are also great for decoration and filling dead space which creates a more cohesive space.

Lighting

Lighting is another thing that can make or break the relaxation of your screened porch. Having sighting that is abrasive and in your face will cause headaches and drive people away from the screened porch. On the flip side, having minimal damp lighting at nighttime will be unpractical and uninviting. Finding that balance between too much and too little lighting will ensure that your screened porch can be enjoyed throughout the night and the relaxation never ends. Things like string lights, lanterns, and candles are soft lighting that are adequate for your space but not overbearing. If you prefer a more lit area, lamps, and ceiling lights will brighten up your space just like it is any other room inside your house.

Prepare for all seasons

Relaxation can be achieved in any season of the year, but sometimes some things must be done to ensure that the weather isn’t getting in the way of comfort. A large part of the US experiences all four seasons and will see drastic differences in temperatures throughout the year. For starters in summer when it is hot and humid, ceiling fans and standing fans will be your best friend. Likewise, in fall and winter, utilizing heaters and fireplaces will keep you nice and warm in your screened porch. In addition to these things, switching out fabrics and decor could also be useful. Lightweight and breathable textiles will be best for hotter months and thick and fuzzy textiles will be best for the cool months. Finally, adding seasonal decor, pumpkins in October for example, will help bring your porch to life and give it some character.

Add Decorations

Once you feel happy with how your screened porch has come along, adding some decorations is a great way to tie everything together. If you want to relax in your screened porch for extended periods of time, having some decor to look at will make the space more inviting. Simple things like pictures, paintings, books, and flowerpots are simple and easy but go a long way. It is also a great way to make the porch your own and give it some personality. Adding things that are personal to you and your family is always a good idea, there really is no way to go wrong with decorating. Giving your screened porch a theme can create a cohesive spot that is relatively easy to shop for.

With the right design decisions, relaxation in a screened porch is not only very achievable but will reaffirm the reason you screened in your porch in the first place.
