3 Ways to Get Your Screened Porch Summer-Ready

While the first official day of summer isn’t until June 21st, summer’s unofficial start is just around the corner. As we note every season, seasonal changes are a great time to complete desired cleaning and redecorating. No matter your summer plans, now’s as good a time as any to get to work crafting your ideal summer-ready screened porch! If you want our tips and tricks to prepare your screened porch for the next season, continue reading.

Cleaning

While we are more than aware of the vast cleaning blogs we’ve written regarding screened porches, it keeps coming up because it’s so important. Your floors, screens, soft furnishings, hard-surfaces, ceiling corners, and essentially every other visible surface all need to be regularly cleaned, just as any other room in your home. Dust and debris collects in all the usual spots; pollen and dirt can hide in unsuspecting crevices; screens can hold onto leaves, bugs, and other filth. Each surface has recommended cleaning activities, which can be found in our former blogs, such as, ‘How to Properly Maintain and Take Care of Your Screened Porch.’

Expert Tip: Clean your screened porch each season to prevent build-up of dirt, debris, and other nuisances. Regularly cleaning will help reduce overall time and effort each season.

Decorating

As we’re heading out of spring, your screened porch is likely decorated with pastels and other light colors. While light pastels can follow your screened porch into summer, we recommend introducing some fresh, bold colors to your space. Bright primary colors, like yellow, red, and blue, are always terrific additions. Or, if you like the more natural, earthy atmosphere, we recommend introducing some greens, ivories, and browns into your screened porch. Truthfully, the summer is about warmth and happiness, so any style that brings you joy is a great style to introduce in the new season. Some popular decoration schemes include seaside beach, woodsy cabin, and cottage greenhouse.

Expert Tip: Add plants and flowers into your screened porch and around its exterior. Plants and flowers add to the overall atmosphere of growth and prosperity, which perfectly exemplifies summer.

Additions/Changes

You wouldn’t keep the same heavy-duty comforter on your bed year-round, so why would you leave heavy throws and space-heaters in your screened porch year-round? You wouldn’t! The summer means out of the warmth and in with the cool, as you’ll be gaining plenty of warmth from the season and sun itself. We recommend swapping heavy throw blankets and pillows for lighter ones; space heaters for floor fans; standing floor lights with tabletop lanterns and string lights; the hot cocoa bar with a cocktail bar. The ideal is your screened porch space feeling new, relaxing, and cool, in comparison to fall, winter, and spring where your space feels a bit warmer and cozier.

Expert Tip: A snack cart and/or mini cocktail bar can change the entire screened porch experience. If you’re a regular host, we really recommend adding both of these to your space this summer!
